Minnesota transportation inspectors said the new Winona Bridge is safe after it was hit by a barge Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), the barge was upstream from the bridge and hit Pier No. 10.
No one was injured in the collision according to authorities. Traffic was not shut down.
Inspectors went by boat to visually check the pier. After looking it over, they determined the damage was superficial only. They added the bridge performed as it was designed.
