Early morning crash in Sterling after avoiding a deer

Town of Sterling (WXOW) – An early morning crash resulted in non-life-threatening injuries after the driver attempted to avoid a deer in the road.

In a statement released Tuesday, Vernon county Sheriff John B. Spears reported to a crash in the town of Sterling around 5:30 A.M. The driver was identified as Cory Lee Simonson, 39, of rural De Soto, Wis. Simonson was reportedly heading northbound on Fortner Road in his pickup truck when he swerved into the oncoming lane in order to miss hitting a deer. The vehicle then traveled back into the northbound lane and struck an embankment. The vehicle came to rest upright in a ditch. Simonson was removed from the vehicle with help from the Wheatland Fire Department.

Simonson recieved non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Gunderson Health System in La Crosse by Tri State Ambulance. He was treated and later released. Simonson was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and there was no airbag deployment.
