GET needs to stay mentally strong in order to be successful

It’s the team the entire Coulee Conference expects to be their biggest challenge, the GET Red Hawks. They are coming off their second straight outright Coulee Conference title.

The Red Hawks went undefeated in conference the last two years while putting up big offensive numbers. Last season, GET averaged 46.9 points per game along with 294 total yards.

Although the Red Hawks are only returning four starters on both sides of the ball, they believe they can continue their success as long as they remain mentally strong.

" The schemes we run are pretty simple, and once they understand it, they can make adjustments on the field," Head Coach Jon Steffenhagen said. " They can make calls themselves, we ain’t got to call a timeout and say what the heck is going wrong out there. So, I think a lot of it is getting them to understand actually what the coaches are thinking on the sidelines, so they can make the adjustments right out on the field without having to take the timeout."

" Consistency, no mental errors, come out everyday focused," Running Back and Corner Back Cole Ziegler said. " Those mental errors are big for us like that is wasted reps that we can’t have."

Coach Steffenhagen enters his 23rd year with the Red Hawks. It’s a year where his team is more inexperienced than in the past. There are only four starters returning on both sides of the ball, however this is of no concern to coach.

" Well every year you use a bunch of seniors you know it’s not like the cupboard is bare right now," Steffenhagen said. " So, we just got to try and find the right kids, put them in the right position and hopefully we can keep the numbers going up. But, my biggest fear right now is our offensive line. We got a lot of young kids there, so that’s where we really have to work the hardest."

GET opens up their season at home against Nekoosa.
