LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Members of the La Crosse Fire Department were out in force Thursday, not to fight fires, but to fight Muscular Dystrophy.
Firefighters were collecting money from drivers during their annual Fill the Boot fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
They were at the corner of La Crosse Street and West Avenue today after getting rained out Tuesday.
Across the U.S. and Canada last year, the effort raised $24 million.
“Our goal is to always make as much or more than we did the year previous. What I do know is that we’ve raised approximately $150,000 over the last ten to twelve years,” said LCFD Captain Jim Hillcoat.
He says the most of the money from the fundraiser stays in the La Crosse area helping children with Muscular Dystrophy fight the disease.
