Ending Oktoberfest with an event for the whole family

La Crosse, WI (WXOW) – Oktoberfest 2018 wraps up on Sunday, with people starting their day with their four-legged friends at the Downtown Oktoberfest Grounds for the fourth annual Dachshund Dash and Viener Vogue.

Organized by Pet Me Scratch Me, a pet service store, the two-part event creates some friendly competition.

Dachshunds race to see who will be crowned the dash champion, if they can tune out the distractions.

All in an effort to provide a final day of Oktoberfest with friends.

“It’s all fun competition, I think everybody is in it for the fun,” Dachshund Dash and Viener Vogue participant Judy Kabat says while holding her dachshund Liebe.

“Dog lovers get together with dog lovers. This one is a little social butterfly and wants to be friends with everybody, so we have a good time,” Kabat elaborates.

Liebe means love in German, a fitting name for the competition.

After the dash, they put on their costumes for the Viener Vogue. The second portion of the event is an adapted fashion show. Dogs show off their various pieces of attire in an effort to be the crowd favorite.

Organizers of the event say they want to end Oktoberfest with an event everyone can enjoy.

“It is absolutely a family event,” Manager for the La Crosse Pet Me Scratch Me Michelle Smith continues, “For people that don’t have the opportunity to bring their furry kids out very often, this is also an opportunity for that.”

“It’s a great way to end the Oktoberfest weekend going out on a good note,” Smith finishes.

Winning the vogue was a dachshund dressed in some traditional German attire.

The event grows every year, so if you missed it on Sunday be sure to mark your calendars for the final day of Oktoberfest 2019.
