Arcadia, Wis. (WXOW) – Officials broke ground on a brand new community center in Arcadia Monday afternoon.
Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch joined the School District of Arcadia and Ron Wanek, founder of Ashley Furniture, for the ground breaking. Wanek’s foundation donated $12 million toward the $17.5 million project, which will be a 71,500 square foot shared space for recreation, events and athletic space for the school district.
“The kids play soccer, they play basketball in this community unlike any community that I’ve seen and it’ll give them additional facilities,” Wanek said. “We have a great soccer field and we have a great football field [and] we have pretty good basketball, but it’s really not adequate for the needs of the community.”
The space will also include Arcadia’s public library.
The rest of the funding came from a $4 million dollar referendum and an additional $1.5 million in donations.
The Wanek Center is expected to be completed by fall of 2019.
