Bangor, Wisc. (WXOW)- The defending state champions of Bangor hosted Eleva-Strum in level two of the WIAA high school football playoffs. The Cardinals bring in a 23-1 overall record over the last two seasons.
On Friday night, Bangor was able to capitalize on good field position in the second quarter as running back Carter Horstman rushed in a 4 yard touchdown to go up 7-0. Horstman then recovered an Eleva-Strum fumble to take a 7-0 lead into the half.
In the third quarter, Horstman continued to dominate with a 25 yard touchdown and a completed 2-point conversion to put his team up 15-0.
” Just running off tackles,” Horstman said. ” Simple stuff we’ve been practicing since 6th grade, running of tackles, we didn’t have to do much else.”
Jayden Nachtigal and Hank Reader each punched in rushing touchdowns in the second half to add onto the Cardinals lead. Bangor shuts out Eleva-Strum 28-0 advancing to level 3 of playoffs.
Here is why Horstman believes the Cardinals can capture their second straight title this year.
” I believe that because we aren’t at our best yet,” Horstman said. ” We got to clean up not beating ourselves. We clean that up, we’re going to be hard to beat.”
Bangor will play Highland next.
