Winona student in custody for school shooting threat

WINONA, Minn. (WXOW) – A 15-year-old youth is in Winona police custody after making a school shooting threat on social media.

Chief Paul Bostrack said they were called to Winona Senior High School Wednesday morning. A student there told a school official of the threat. The student showed them a Snapchat video sent by another student regarding “shooting up the school”.

The youth was identified by officials. Police went to his home in Winona a few minutes later. The male was then taken into custody and transported to the Winona County Jail. Chief Bostrack said a charge of Threats of Violence was referred to the Winona County Attorney’s Office.

In a release to the media, Chief Bostrack said the student who brought the video to the attention of school staff did the right thing. It was very instrumental in bringing a quick and safe resolution to a very serious situation, Bostrack said.
