Eagles clamp down on defense with big stretch coming

La Crosse, Wis. (WXOW)  UW-La Crosse’s win over Viterbo last night didn’t count in the standings because it was an exhibition game for the Eagles.
But there is no taking away city bragging rights for the next year.

UW-L has won 14 of the last 15 meetings with the V-Hawks.
It was an important win for the Eagles, especially on the defensive end, where they held Viterbo to just 35 percent shooting.
That will come in handy down the road.
UW-L has the number one toughest strength of schedule in the nation.

“It proves that we can hold teams under 65. That we can pride oursevles on the defensive end and we showed that. We have some great competition coming in here this weekend where we play back to back games on Saturday and Sunday before you get into league play. We’re going to be tested each and every single night. It’s going to take a great effort from our young men to get it done,” said head coach Kent Dernbach.

The Eagles will host Buena Vista on Saturday and Wartburg on Sunday.
