Governor Evers in La Crosse to talk about health care

La Crosse, WI (WXOW)  Just a day after he was sworn into office, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers spoke in La Crosse.

The governor toured Gundersen Health System.

Then, he talked about health care. That discussion included protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

Also Tuesday, the governor signed two executive orders related to health care for Wisconsin residents.

One of Evers’ orders calls for the Department of Health Services to develop a plan to ensure that more people have access to affordable, quality health care by expanding Medicaid.

He’s also directing a number of state agencies to implement plans or make recommendations to protect people with pre-existing conditions and protect against attempts to repeal the federal law.

The orders are limited in scope.

Expanding medicaid and withdrawing from the lawsuit to essentially end the Affordable Care Act require approval from the republican controlled legislature.
