“Souper” soul food for the coming freeze

La Crosse, WI (WXOW) – It’s a super time to consider soup as a meal. Colder weather means a Wisconsin favorite like beer cheese soup is perfect to warm the soul.

Tina Peterson with the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin stopped by Daybreak with the recipe and some ideas to take it to the next level.

Peterson said the key is using quality Wisconsin cheese and beer. She said a blend of cheddar and Colby cheeses make for a velvety and flavorful soup. Paired with a Wisconsin beer rounds out the hometown favorite.

“Nothing says Wisconsin like beer and soup, merging our favorites into one dish!” said Peterson. “Looking for a hearty, flavorful soup to warm up the colder months? This version of a classic favorite boasts a creamy, decadent flavor featuring two Wisconsin cheeses. Garnish with seasoned croutons, sliced green onions, or crumbled bacon.”
