Heather Armstrong

Heather Armstrong started at News 19 in November of 2010.

She anchors Live at 5 and co-anchors the weekday 6 & 10 PM newscasts.

Before coming to News 19, Heather was a reporter for various California stations and an infield producer for Emmy Award winning “Cheap Eats” in Los Angeles.  She also worked at KBAK/Fox in Bakersfield and served as TV Host of City Council Live for ESTV3 for eight years. She has won various awards including a 2010 Emmy for the PSA, “Kids Finance” which she produced/directed.

Heather grew up in New York City but attended college in Pennsylvania at St. Francis University. After college she moved to Manhattan to work on Wall Street before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in Broadcast Journalism.

She interned at CNN, CBS, CBS Sports and Fox Sports Net where she was later hired.

Heather is an active volunteer in the community and can often be seen taking any number of animals including dogs, cats, goats and soon to be her therapy pig, “Baby” to nursing homes. She has been an advocate for people with disabilities all her life since her brother has a rare disorder called Prader Willie Syndrome.

Heather reports on various stories but every month features a volunteer in the community in the Jefferson Awards Segment, a national movement encouraging communities across the country to foster civic engagement.  She also started a series called “Everyone Has a Story.”  It features unique people who share their struggles and achievements while aiming to dispel myths and prejudices along the way.

Providing homes for unwanted animals is Heather’s passion and she hopes to make her rescue official in the near future.

Heather gets most of her story ideas from being active in the community and from viewers who write in.  If you have an idea send her an email at or send her a message on Facebook @MyNewsisGoodNews.
