Key to Closs court case: Jayme’s testimony

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – If the case against Jake Patterson goes to trial, it is likely prosecutors will rely on testimony from Jayme Closs as the key witness.

La Crosse attorney Keith Belzer tells WXOW she must be first cleared as competent to testify. While that is likely to happen, preparing someone so young to take the stand who has gone through significant trauma may take some time.

“The process of getting ready to testify shouldn’t be very lengthy. It’s the process of getting to a healthy place first that’s going to be a difficult one,” said Belzer.

Another aspect of any potential trial: All the publicity. Belzer notes that he wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t a change of venue given the nature of the case and the strong emotional connection in the Barron County community.
