Senator Tammy Baldwin on who’s responsible for the partial government shutdown

Washington, D.C. (WXOW)  Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin says both houses of Congress have done their jobs to keep government open.

She says, each passed legislation to accomplish that goal.

Now, Baldwin says the president has to act.

All members of Congress are concerned about border security, she says.  Her plan is to re-open government, pay workers and then sit down with the president to discuss comprehensive immigration reform.

In the meantime, Baldwin is working. She’s re-introduced legislation along with Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar designed to lower the cost of prescription drugs. That legislation requires Medicare to negotiate with drug companies for lower prices.

During the campaign, candidate Donald Trump said he supported this idea, although Baldwin says he’s recently backed away from it.

Still, the president has said lowering the cost of prescription drugs is a priority.  So, Baldwin says there’s room to work together on this and other initiatives to, in her words, bring accountability to the pharmaceutical industry.
