La Crosse County Sheriff’s Captain promoted to Chief Deputy

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – The La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department has a new Chief Deputy. Captain Mike Horstman has been promoted to the position after the previous Chief Deputy Jeff Wolf was promoted to Sheriff.

Horstman has been with the Sheriff’s Department for nearly 30 years, serving as a correctional officer in the jail, a patrol deputy and sergeant. He grew up in La Crosse and says he is honored to hold this position.

As Chief Deputy he oversees budgeting and working with the patrol and jail division. “Our department again has been very progressive both in training aspects, mental health aspects, both for citizens, jail inmates, and staff. Those are things that are key looking at ways to keep our health, our staff healthy mentally and physically are going to be a tough thing going forward.”

Chief Deputy Horstman says they are currently hiring for the Captain position and have qualified candidates to choose from.
