Sen. Baldwin: Partial government shutdown has ripple effect

Washington, D.C. (WXOW)  The partial government shutdown is not only affecting federal employees.  Wisconsin U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin says, there’s a ripple effect.

Senator Baldwin provided media availability Thursday to the media for questions about the shutdown.  She says it now affects people who do business with the federal government.  During a recent conversation, she used Tomah Memorial Hospital as an example.

The hospital has a loan from the United States Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Program.  But right now, no one is available to distribute loan payments.

Senator Baldwin sent a letter to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue asking whether his department can do anything about the Tomah situation.

In the meantime, Baldwin says the House passed legislation which would re-open government.  She says the Senate should do the same.
