LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) — Local Wisconsin high school dancers gathered to compete at the WACPC State Dance Championships at the La Crosse Center on Saturday, February 2, 2019.
The performers’ energy levels were high and visible via their genuine smiles. Teammates have been practicing together for at least a year, all leading up to the championships. Jazz and Pom dancers kicked their way through different sets. Coaches were just as enthused about the day as the dancers.
“My team especially is good with bringing their facials and energy,” Onalaska Varsity Dance Team Coach Brittany Geary said. “Our jazz dance is intense but you can make a connection with it…it tells a story.”
Sparkly outfits and flowing uniforms told a story of their own while judges observed and awarded points.
The first session of the competition began at 9 a.m. and the second began at 6 p.m. The awards ceremony followed the last performance of each session.
