Senator Baldwin working to lower cost of prescription drugs

Washington, D.C. (WXOW)  Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin invited a guest to the State of the Union address.

Her name is Diane Whitcraft from Webster, Wisconsin.

Whitcraft is particularly interested in lowering the cost of prescription drugs.  She has Multiple Sclerosis.

She took the same medication for her condition for 23 years.  Senator Baldwin says, however, that the price of her medication kept rising every year.  Concerned about draining savings Whitcraft decided to stop taking her medication.

Along with Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, Senator Baldwin re-introduced the Empowering Medicare Seniors to Negotiate Act.  According to a release from Baldwin’s office, the act would “allow for Medicare to negotiate the best possible price of prescription drugs to cut costs for nearly 43 million seniors enrolled in Medicare Part D.  Current law allows for bargaining by pharmaceutical companies and prohibits Medicare from doing so.”
