Chickens lost in Sparta area fire

TOWN OF LITTLE FALLS, Wis. (WXOW) – Several dozen chickens were lost in a fire Friday morning near Sparta.

Members of Erv’s Sparta Area Fire Protection District were called to a home at 3146 State Highway 71 around 10:51 a.m. for a report of a chicken coup on fire.

Firefighters were challenged to get to the scene due to an un-plowed driveway.

Crews were able to put the fire out and keep it from spreading to a nearby building.

The coup was a total loss, said Chief Mike Arnold, with 30-40 chickens perishing in the fire.

He reminded homeowners to make sure driveways are plowed in order for vehicles to get to the scene of an emergency.
