Sheldon F. Winnie served during WWII in the United States Army as well as the Merchant Marines. As many other young men of the time, he ran away from home, lied about his age, and enlisted. His parents located Sheldon and brought him back home until his return to the Army when he became of age. Several years later he was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal. Sheldon is pictured on the right (with the hat). Unfortunately, I do not know the other serviceman pictured. I believe this picture was taken at fort McCoy, but I am not sure. Like many veterans, he never talked much about his service. Sheldon passed away in 1996.
