LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Over 114,000 Americans are waiting for an organ donation.
About 2,000 of those mentioned are located in Wisconsin.
Gundersen Health System joined in with more than 80 Donate Life Wisconsin members and partner organizations in a statewide Donate Life flag raising ceremony Monday morning.
The commemoration occurred at 10:08 to remember that one donor can save eight lives.
This was followed by a 1 minute and 14 second moment of silence to recognize the 114,000 patients waiting for a life saving transplant.
The event started off National Donate Life month.
The flag was introduced in 2006 as a national symbol of unity, remembrance and hope, along with honoring those touched by donation and transplantation.
