Folks celebrate Easter and Spring with church, brunch

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) — Several people celebrated the Christian holiday of Easter to reflect on the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Sunday.

There was not an empty pew at Holy Trinity Catholic Church’s Easter Mass. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Onalaska displayed an empty tomb as a part of their re-enactment of Jesus rising from the dead.

Some people continued the celebration after church at local restaurants that were completely booked for brunch.

The Waterfront Restaurant and Tavern had a buffet-styled brunch. It’s the first time they’ve hosted an Easter-themed breakfast and lunch. There was ham, sausage, hash-browns and dessert trays among the food.

People dressed in bright spring colors and some even wore bunny ears. The weather made for a nice day to celebrate spring.

“We have a ’66 Mustang so it’s always fun to take that out in nice weather and what better place to do it than here on the river and have a great meal and just enjoy the weather since it’s finally nice,” The Waterfront regular Katherine Bissonette said. “Spring is finally here!”

“Everybody’s a little bit more dressed up,” The Waterfront assistant general manager Augusta Favre said. “Everybody’s really cheerful and excited to spending time with family so we like to be a part of that.”

Patio season begins on May first at the restaurant that overlooks the Mississippi River.
