LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) — Boats and volunteers patrolled the Mississippi River to pick up debris for the 26th year of the annual clean up day.
From Fred Funk to the Seventh Street boat landings, each spot was home base for different groups improving the river’s quality.
There were over 200 volunteers boating and walking up and down the river.
“I think for a lot of people it’s one of the nice things that La Crosse has to offer the Coulee Region,” Volunteer Ryan Berra said. “You see so much stuff out there when you’re enjoying the weekend on a sandbar… If I can pitch in on a Saturday to pick up a few bottles and garbage it makes this area great!”
Berra volunteered with his co-workers from local business CHART.
Volunteers found things like old wood frames, old buoys, basketball hoop bases and jugs floating out in the river.
