LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Area veterans enjoyed a day trip to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials that were built in their honor.
The 23rd Freedom Honor Flight departed from La Crosse Regional Airport Saturday morning. On board were 95 veterans – six World War II veterans, 26 Korean War Veterans, and 63 Vietnam veterans.
Before departure, veterans and their families enjoyed coffee, donuts, and an official send off ceremony. They return late Saturday night to a welcome back celebration.
The Freedom Honor Flight serves 30 counties in three different states and has flown over 1,800 veterans to the Washington D.C. memorials since the program started.
