La Crosse, WI (WXOW)  Some local experts are beginning to see positive signs in the fight against opioid addiction.

One development is the use of Naloxone, commonly called Narcan.  Opiates affect the respiratory system.  Narcan reverses that effect.

Many of those experts are part of a group called the Alliance to HEAL.  HEAL is an acronym – Halting the Effects of Addiction Locally.  They are working to stop overdose deaths in La Crosse County and at least one community member is grateful for their efforts.

Steve Yonkovich lost his brother Scott to an addiction.  He doesn’t want anyone else to go through what his brother did, and he hopes other families can avoid the experience of losing someone they love.

News 19’s Dave Solie has the story.
