West Salem baseball gives back by visiting veterans

Tomah, Wisc. (WXOW) – The West Salem Legion baseball team stopped by the Tomah VA Medical Center on Friday to spend the afternoon with the veterans.

To help with the June Dairy Days, players and coaches assisted veterans around the event.

This was a great team building activity, but more importantly it gave a chance for two generations to learn from each other and teach the young ball players how to become men.

“If you’re going to go through this world only worried about you, you’re missing out on 99.9 percent of it,” Sean Gavaghan said. “The guys from Post 51 baseball, they’re gonna learn it and when they leave us, man I hope they continue to serve and look at the example a lot of these veterans set for them.”

The Dairy Days event featured some fun activities for veterans to enjoy and participate including: live music, cow pie bingo, an antique tractor display and farm animals.
