How you can help others Friday for World Blood Donor Day

Eau Claire (WQOW) – The American Red Cross is asking for your help Friday: it needs donor blood, and it needs specific types.

Friday is World Blood Donor Day. The Red Cross has started a campaign to ask the public for help restocking hospitals’ blood supply. The nonprofit has even dropped the letters A, B, and O from its logo to help spread the word. You may see other organizations missing those letters Friday. Staff says these important blood types are dwindling in hospitals nationwide.

According to Red Cross data, only three out of every 100 Americans donates blood throughout the year. “Help others, help them survive. If they’re fighting something and they have an emergency and they need some blood, give it to them,” said Joni Baker, a sterile processing facilitator at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital. “If they need it give it. I might be tired a couple of days after donating but it’s nothing compared to what they go through.”

Friday in La Crosse and Onalaska you can donate at a few different locations –
