Months of firework prep pays off for group of volunteers

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Volunteers and organizers of the La Crosse Skyrockers show have been planning the Fourth of July Fireworks event for months now.

PR Director for the La Crosse Skyrockers Marty Schmal said the process of planning the show has been a team effort. Months ago, the team had a lot to think about regarding the design and plan of the show. They met in March to put the event together.

“Everyone kinda just comes up with ideas and we all get together in the meeting and see what each other want to do and then try to blend it all together and make a beautiful show out of it.” Schmal said.

Those months of hard work came together a few days ago when volunteers were able to piece together the firework show. Some team members were on the site early Thursday morning, digging the trenches, wiring and setting the design. Despite the risks of firework prep, the volunteers say they continue to do it every year because the love seeing the reaction of the crowd.

“When we get done, it goes from absolute chaos to quiet, and then the crowd chimes in and that’s what we do it for,” Schmal said.

The team has been worried about the weather, but it’s not going to stop them from putting on the show. The firework show is set to start at 10 p.m. and will last 22 minutes. The team members are encouraging everyone to stay after the finale and watch for a special display.

The La Crosse Skyrockers show is sponsored by Kwik Trip.

WXOW will live stream the show tonight starting at 10 p.m. on the WXOW website and our Facebook page.
