UPDATE: Several other locations around La Crosse are opening cooling centers for residents without adequate resources to combat the hot weather.
La Crosse Police said the following places are available:
La Crosse Center, North Hall, tonight, July 18 until 10pm, and tomorrow Friday July 19 from 8am-5pm.
• La Crosse Public Library; all three branches (Main, South and North) can be utilized during business hours as a designated cooling shelter.
• Southside Neighborhood Center will be open on Friday July 19 from 9am-1pm
• Black River Beach Neighborhood Center will be open on Friday July 19 from 9am-2pm
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – As temperatures soar during these next few days, the Salvation Army in La Crosse is opening their doors for people to stay out of the heat.
Media Relations and Volunteer Coordinator Alex Riley said they have opened their Cooling Center Thursday and Friday and into the weekend.
Riley said if the heat index is over 90 degrees, the center will open during the day. At night, the center is open if the heat index goes over 100 degrees.
The location is 223 North 8th Street South in La Crosse.
