New adult family home opens for people with disabilities

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Aptiv celebrated the opening of an adult family home on 28th Street with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The celebration was held for donors and the families that will benefit from the services provided at this home. Aptiv currently operates five residences in the area. Each has 24 hour supervision and offer an opportunity for residents to have daily social interaction.

This new house will include spacious hallways for wheelchair access, roll-in showers and easily accessible appliances. It also includes lifts to get residents in and out of bed, beds and wheelchair accessible tables to make it as safe as possible.

Aptiv, previously called Riverfront Activity Center, was established in La Crosse. The current President and CEO is Mary Kessens who said, “This is an opportunity to give people the greatest amount of independence.”

“People with disabilities are many times overlooked in many community equations and we are worse off when that happens,” Kessens said. “When we can remember those unique contributions it enriches life for all of us.”

There are still two spots open in the newly designed home. If you or a loved one are interested in living here you can visit Aptiv’s website.
