Eau Claire church prepares parishioners for gun violence

Eau Claire (WQOW) – During times of tragedy, many people turn to their faith. In fact, Lutheran churches across America like St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eau Claire have a program for parishioners.

Pastor Julie Brenden said her church is offering a 60-day guided journey on gun violence, which includes comforting messages and prayers geared toward specific tragedies.

She said it is important for people to find a sense of community and find comfort through conversation.

She said the goal of the program is to fight violence with love.

“Fred Rogers said love is at the root of everything – all learning, all relationships, love or lack of it,” Brenden said. “So, in the world today we see a lot of violence and so to reduce violence and increase love would be one way of doing that.

Brenden said increasing love can be as simple as a community gathering together or texting a prayer or comforting thought to a loved one.
