LA CROSSE, Wis (WXOW) – Irishfest begins this Friday in La Crosse, and this year’s fest has a few new twists.
The event has plenty to do for the entire family, including a kids area with games, crafts and even sheep shearing. Traditional food and dance are going to be highlighted throughout the weekend, so bring an empty stomach and your dancing shoes!
Throughout the weekend, visitors can participate in a few different competitions, from a fiddling competition, to the highland games. There will even be a mashed potato eating contest.
The fest is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, and will feature Saturday night fireworks from the Skyrockers as a new 2019 addition.
Irishfest Vice President Kathleen Ryan says she can’t believe how much this festival has grown.
“The festival started out with a small group of people that said, ‘Hey wouldn’t it be fun if we had an Irishfest here in La Crosse?’ So they put it together, with volunteers, and every year it has grown and grown,” said Ryan.
Festivities run from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening. For a full list of events and to pre-purchase tickets, visit the Irishfest website here.
