Wisconsin DNR investigating sand plant spill into Jackson County creek

Jackson County (WXOW) – The Wisconsin DNR is investigating the extent of a sand plant spill into a waterway over the weekend in Jackson County.

The DNR says the spill happened at Wisconsin Proppants Operations, a sand mine near Hixton. The spill has spread down the Curran Coulee Creek, which is a tributary of the Trempealeau River.

The DNR has staff investigating the impact Tuesday. So far, they’re stating they have yet to find any dead animals because of this incident.

The DNR is also investigating what exactly spilled into the creek.

We plan to get an update on the extent of the damage and any possible citations against Wisconsin Proppants Operations once the DNR has completed its testing.
