WINONA, MN (WXOW) – Winona Kindergarten enrollment is up. The school district is looking to increase kindergarten sections across all elementary schools.
Enrollment figures indicate that kindergartens in Winona have 102 more students that expected.
This year’s registration for kindergarten grew by 43 students.
Goodview Elementary hired a new kindergarten teacher last week to handle to increase of students. Parents may be concerned about their kids’ needs being met with more kids to focus on, but Goodview Principal Emily Cassellius says not to worry.
“If we had 200 kids or 250 kids, we would make sure that we know what their individual needs are and make sure that they’re being met. I would reassure any parent that increased enrollment isn’t going to take away from any student,” said Cassellius.
The numbers were presented to the school board on Thursday, August 15 but it could change as the year goes on because of situations like students moving to and from the district.
Preliminary enrollment numbers have 97 Kindergartners compared to 72 last year.
