CASHTON, Wis. – (WXOW) – Governor Tony Evers, Senator Tammy Baldwin and State Senator Jennifer Shilling toured the Scenic Bluffs Health Center in Cashton. The federally funded non-profit center serves four counties. After the tour, Evers made it clear that he will continue to push for Medicaid expansion in the state legislature.
“I know Republican legislators, once they get the okay from the leadership, they will join us too,” Evers said. “It’s a small number but we need to change their mind.”
Evers and Baldwin both spoke to the access to health care in rural areas. A specific area of concern, reaching out to farmers. Economic factors have shown an increase in the number of farmers taking their own lives.
“We recognize a lot of people facing stress in the dairy farm industry, and maybe not as likely to talk about that stress they are facing,” Baldwin said.
“Seeking help for mental health service should be no different than seeking help for a broken arm,” added Shilling.
Scenic Bluffs currently provides multi-services that include medical, dental and behavioral health care. They offer a sliding scale fee to assure cost is not a barrier to those seeking help.
