What factors could lead to a recession?

La Crosse, WI (WXOW)  While the White House downplays a recession a recent study indicates growing concern.

ABC News reports of 226 economists surveyed by the National Association for Business, 34 percent predict a recession in 2021.

Yan Arsenault, a vice president with Trust Point in La Crosse provided some perspective, using something called The Global Trade Dominoes from MRB Partners, Incorporated.




Arsenault told us it shows world trade affected by trade wars which affects the manufacturing sector.  One effect is that CEO’s may not be as willing to spend or hire as they have in the past.

If that trend continues without resolution and tariffs continue to escalate, that could lead to a recession.

If a recession hits, one question is, how bad will it be?  Arsenault says it may not be as deep or long as the 2008, 2009 recession.
