La Crescent, MN (WXOW) – A tourism group in Southeast Minnesota boasts an ambitious goal. Historic Bluff Country aims to create a culture that puts the area on par with some of the top regions in the world.
The goal is to put the area on par with places like Napa Valley and Upstate New York. Through a revamped website and increased presence on social media, Historic Bluff Country president Eric Leitzen said he’s working to get the word out about the area to folks across the region, country and around the world.
“We’ve already got people coming in from all over the country,” Leitzen said. “We do have some international requests for tourism information.”
That information details the various events, concerts, places to stay and eat in all of the towns that dot the map throughout Historic Bluff Country. Even for people who live in the area, Leitzen said there’s something to discover just by taking a road less traveled. In fact, Historic Bluff Country also serves as an advocate for the region’s nationally recognized historic byways.
Leitzen said the next projects include working with legislators and the Minnesota Dept. of Transportation to enhance that byway stewardship. He’s also working to enhance membership offerings.
