LA CROSSE, WI. (WXOW) The 2019 Major League Fishing REDCREST tournament has come to La Crosse, with 30 of the top anglers from across the world taking to the Mississippi River.
Among them is Ott DeFoe, an elite fisherman from Tennesee and the 2019 Bassmaster Classic Champion. DeFoe has had a very successful career as a professional fisherman; he finished in the Top 20 in over half of the B.A.S.S. tournaments he fished in eight years and finished in the money an astounding 79 percent of the tournaments he fished. DeFoe has more than 45 career Top 10’s and over $2 million in career winnings.
DeFoe says that he fished his first tournament when he was just nine years old. “At a really young age, I knew I loved fishing,” said DeFoe. “I wanted to catch anything that was in the water and go as often as I could. Once I found fishing I realized that the fish have no idea what’s on the other end of the line, and that’s what I always want to tell people is that it doesn’t matter what your age is, what your height is, what your build is, anything like that, the fish have no idea.”
One of the things that DeFoe enjoys most about being a professional angler is traveling across the country, meeting new people, and fishing new places, “To get to go to so many new places, some of the same places and just get to go fishing. I mean just saying it brings a smile to my face because that’s how much I enjoy it,” says DeFoe.
The Major League Fishing REDCREST will run through Sunday, August 25, with the top angler taking home the grand prize of $300,000.
