LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – PRIDE at the Park marks the beginning of a week-long LGBTQ+ community celebration.
Colorful flags, pets and community appeared to be the theme for the inclusive event. The Center: 7 Rivers LGBTQ Connection hosts the annual celebration for people who identify with the community and their allies. La Crosse hosts its pride week in September so its not forced to compete with larger events in Milwaukee, Minneapolis or Chicago in June.
“This is our opportunity to truly honor the people who started the fight for equal rights for LGBTQ people,” The Center: 7 Rivers LGBTQ Connection Board President Eddie Luker said. “This is how it turns into this great celebration. We have a week-long event acknowledging all of the people that have come before us, all the people who are with us now and for those who are to come.”
La Crosse’s pride celebration concludes on Friday at the La Crosse Center with their biggest event So You Think You Can Drag?! Last year the drag competition sold over 600 tickets–which can be purchased here.
