WINONA, Minn. (WXOW) – A small tornado damaged a building and headstones at a Winona cemetery Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service said that the EF-1 tornado had peak winds around 95 mph. It was only on the ground for a minute and traveled less than a quarter mile. They said the the tornado was about 80 yards wide.
The tornado struck around 6:25 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery just off Highway 14/61.
They said a number of trees were damaged by the tornado.
Other tree and power line damage was also reported elsewhere in Winona. The National Weather Service said that their initial investigation shows that damage was caused from high winds associated with the storm front that also spawned the tornado.
Most of the power was restored by the afternoon.
The cemetery is closed until further notice.
