LA CRESCENT, Minn. (WXOW) – Painters are hard at work crafting pieces inspired by the local landscape as part of a festival.
The 2019 Between the Bluffs Plein Air Painting Festival began September 7th and wraps up September 20th.
Organizers say “plein air” simply means painting outdoors directly from nature, something they feel the Mississippi Valley provides ample opportunity for.
“We are rich in natural beauty and resources and that’s what all of these paintings portray. They portray a sense of place from where the artist stands and I think people are going to be charmed and enchanted by the work,” festival committee member Ellen Kallies said.
All of the artwork produced outdoors during the nearly two-week festival will be gathered together Friday, September 20th. Artists will submit their best pieces to be judged and eventually sold to the public.
A quick-paint competition takes place at the Riverside Park Friendship Gardens on Saturday, Sept. 14. Artists will have two-hours starting at 10 am to create an original piece. The winner of that will be announced at 12:30 pm. The public is invited to watch the painters create.
