LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Bridges United Methodist Church is downsizing by moving from its historic building on King Street to a smaller venue downtown.
Pastor Anna-Lisa Hunter said it is too expensive to manage the boiler system and facility costs, for a space they do not even use.
“In the last 10 years, there has been a huge decline in the number of people who are participating in Christian churches in the United States, so this isn’t an unusual situation with the churches that are making changes here in La Crosse,” Pastor Hunter said. “We would like to be proactive and downsize our facility so that we can focus more on the ministry of making a difference in our community and helping people connect with the sacred spaces in their lives.”
Pastor Hunter also said the church is optimistic an offer will be made in the next few weeks, and they will officially move mid-October.
