La Crosse, WI (WXOW) — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness of a disease that affects one in eight women.
Jamie Dahl says she had a mammogram two years ago. The results came back negative but after the urging of a friend to continue to do self exams Jamie found a small lump.
Jamie was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer after she received a clear mammogram a few months before. Over a short time Jamie had four rounds of chemo-therapy and a full double mastectomy.
The experience stripped her to her core. She felt vulnerable and at the mercy of this disease. Today, she says the experience made her appreciate life even more.
“Even the little things like driving today and seeing the beautiful leaves changing and the sun shining and in the past I might have been too busy to notice those things but when your life stops on a dime you’re forced to really stop and appreciate the little things so it just gave me a whole new perspective on life,” said Jamie.
