Active shooter drill planned at Gundersen in La Crosse on Wednesday

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – La Crosse police, firefighters, and Gundersen Health System staff will take part in an active shooter drill on Wednesday.

In a statement from Gundersen Health System, all three organizations will practice their response during the drill which is set to begin at 5 p.m. at Gundersen Clinic in La Crosse.

The drill happens in Gundersen’s Cardiology and Obstetrics & Gynecology departments. Gundersen says patients won’t see the event.

The statement said the drill begins when a La Crosse police officer simulates shots fired. Gundersen staff, using their ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training on whether to escape or lockdown.

Volunteers from the Health Science Academy will play victims during the drill to help test emergency response.
