La Crosse, WI (WXOW) – With 25 days until the 25th annual Rotary Lights, we’re taking a daily tour of the display through the years.
We start where it all began. On November 24, 1995, in front of a crowd of about 500 people, crews lit the 250,000 lights decorating Riverside Park. Billed originally as the “Coulee Jubilee,” the first 38 days of the event saw an average of 1,500 cars nightly.
Volunteers collected 13,000 food items for local pantries during the initial year.
