25 Nights of Rotary Lights: 1996

La Crosse, WI (WXOW) – We continue our countdown to the 25th Rotary Lights celebration with a look at the 1996 display. A successful first year saw significant growth for the second.

Volunteers strung-up 350,000 lights throughout Riverside Park for Rotary Lights in ’96 creating some of the memorable displays that return year after year. Many of those displays came from the creativity of La Crescent Rotarian Leo Chaput.

Food donations also increased in year two—up from a little more than 13,000 to just over 20,000. All of it went to feed the hungry around our area.

If you’ve got a Rotary Lights memory that stands out, share it with us on our Facebook page!

We’ll be counting down each day until the 25th annual Rotary Lights goes live on November 29.
