LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Habitat for Humanity brought local veterans together to build a new garage for a community member.
La Crosse Area Habitat for Humanity is piloting the program for veterans to work together as a team while they achieve one common goal.
“I think it gets them working in the community,” volunteer builder Al Pedrazoli said. “It gives them a purpose and they get to join us. It’s all about teamwork.”
Pedrazoli has volunteered his weekends building with Habitat for Humanity since 2001.
“I like doing this,” Pedrazoli said. “I like building things.”
Experienced workers like Pedrazoli make the work simpler for veterans with little-to-no construction experience.
“They make it really easy for you to be able to contribute even if you don’t have a background in building,” Marine Corps veteran Lissa Carlson said.
