LANESBORO, Minn. (KTTC) — A long time tradition of feeding others continued in Lanesboro Thursday.
The Discovery Faith Community church welcomed everyone to join them for a traditional Thanksgiving meal – with all of the fixings.
The event started 17 years ago with a turn out of 50 people. Since then, it’s grown into a crowd of about 200.
The meal is free every year, but the church also aims to give back. Every year, accepting free will donations for a local food shelf. Last year, $1,000 was donated to the Fillmore County Food Shelf.
Organizer Debra Danielson says fellowship is at the heart of the event.
“It is people communicating, interacting with each other, being in fellowship with each other. And it’s, it’s warm, and makes people feel good, and that’s what this is about,” Danielson said. “Especially people who don’t have any place to go, they can be a part of this, and be a part of a family.”
Food was served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. Danielson hopes to continue the tradition for as long as she can.
