LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Seven Rivers Alliance hosted a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the importance of housing development when improving and maintaining the local economy.
Leaders focused on new retirement housing developments that could keep seniors and baby boomers in La Crosse, rather than moving to places like Arizona.
Issues like income levels and proximity to family generally top new retirees lists for reasons to stay in a certain area.
"If we can come up with more senior living then that creates additional space within the existing housing structure that's available," Seven Rivers Alliance CEO Chirs Hardie said.
Hardie and other community leaders said it is important to keep baby boomers in our area to contribute to the economy while still attracting younger couples.
