LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The annual Winter Rec-Fest is typically hosted in January and ran around six days.
It featured everything from a medallion hunt to figure skating, curling and indoor events like indoor sports or card tournaments.
This would have been it's 33rd year, but after some problems in years past, the city is taking a break to revamp it.
"With it being so weather dependent, and us not getting a lot of snow the last few years, we've had to cancel several events anyways. So we're just looking for ways we can breathe some new life into it," said La Crosse special events coordinator, Abby Heilman.
There will still be several independent events this season such as curling and skating at Green Island and pop-up sledding through the parks department but due to state gambling regulations, the Euchre and Sheepshead tournaments are canceled.
